VOLUNTEERS RAISE FUNDS FOR THE READING SEED AT PORT MACQUARIE IRONMAN

WHAT A BRILLIANT WAY TO FUNDRAISE!

The Reading Seed’s fundraising committee banned together to volunteer in the Port Macquarie Ironman 70.3 held in early May, to raise funds for The Reading Seed. Committee members, Raelene, Karleen and Noleen along with volunteers Noel and Ken volunteered their time to work at one of the biggest sporting events in the local area.

This triathlon is considered widely popular due to the spectacular waterfront views competitors have when racing throughout the region and great support from the community that it attracts many competitors from all over Australia and different parts of the world. It is an event organised with Ironman Australia, seeing 30 participants qualify to go on to the Ironman World championships.

The Ironman event is such a success due to the community support from volunteers and this is what Ironman Australia do so well. They target non profit organisations to come and volunteer on the day and in exchange will donate funds to the organisation as a whole, depending on the number of volunteers the organisation could provide and the number of hours those volunteers worked. Many local schools and clubs participate and it is just such brilliant and easy way for non-profit organisations to raise funds. All that is needed is volunteers!

We are really appreciative to Ironman Australia and this event for including The Reading Seed for the second time. Thank you to our volunteers who took the time out of their own lives to work this event, representing The Reading Seed as well their community. The money raised from this event will go towards our Sponsor a Teacher project in Peru.
