The Reading Seed is a registered Australian charity (with the Australian Charities and Non Profit Commission) that helps to provide educational opportunities for under-privileged children living in orphanages, children’s homes and children without access to basic education that we take for granted in Australia. Our main concern is that each project is going to advance LEARNING to create sustainability.
For this role we are looking for a qualified primary school teacher to support our Remedial Teaching project in South Africa. Here we are supporting a local charity who run the Village of Joy, home to 16 children that come from a background of abuse and neglect. As a result of their upbringing many have suffered in their schooling.
The South African education system does not provide additional support for children left behind or with learning difficulties and as a result these children fall further behind. Without a decent education they will continue to struggle in a South Africa with high unemployment and an abundance of low skilled workers.
Remedial and one on one teaching is required to provide dedicated assistance to help bring these children back up to the required level to advance their education effectively and give them a chance to break their cycle of poverty.
The role is focussed on providing dedicated, one-on-one teaching for 3 primary school students that are struggling at school. Support is required across all subjects, however the students need the most support in mathematics.
In addition you will provide support for all 16 children at the village for homework and studies and help with general duties to assist with the day to day running of the children’s home.
You must have an Australian (or similar) Bachelor of Education (primary)
You must show proof of Australian teaching registration (this does not need to be current)
You must have a valid working with children card
Any additonal training, qualifications and experience in learning support, educational support and/or remedial teaching will be highly regarded.
Please contact us on info@thereadingseed.org.au if you are interested.
